The Generous Remnant

A prayerful invitation to strengthen the mission of John Wesley Methodist Church.

A Personal Invitation

If you are exploring this page, it likely means you love John Wesley and are prayerfully considering how you might strengthen its mission in this important season. The Generous Remnant represents faithful partners who sense God inviting them to step forward—seeking to align their generosity with the capacity He has entrusted to them for the sake of Christ’s work through this church.

I am personally inviting individuals and families who love the church and believe in its mission to explore becoming part of the Generous Remnant. This begins with a personal conversation, a time to share vision, answer questions, and prayerfully consider what God might be asking in this season.

In Christ,
Rev. Dr. Marty Dunbar

What is the Generous Remnant?

A CALLING FROM GOD

At the heart of the Generous Remnant is a simple commitment: To prayerfully pursue the fullest generosity capacity God has blessed us with during this strategic season of ministry and possibly beyond.

NOT A FUNDRAISER

It is a spiritual invitation to participate more deeply in the mission of the church.

For each Generous Remnant member, it means stepping forward in a significant way to help close the current ministry funding gap.

What Greater Generosity Makes Possible

• Fully fund our Special Needs Ministry
• Add a third clergy leader focused on young families
• Strengthen communication and outreach
• Maintain our campus with confidence
• Sunday Morning security officer
• Honor our strong and faithful staff
• Infuse every ministry with momentum

What If We Took One Step Together?

We have 77 faithful giving units being invited to join the Generous Remnant.

If we received an average increase across those prayerful giving units of just $3,000 per year, John Wesley would see an annual increase of $231,000 for mission and ministry. This is God-Math in action.

Over three years, that becomes $693,000—nearly $700,000 in sustained funding that strengthens our mission and relieves the ongoing pressure on our budget.

Why JW needs the Generous Remnant

Our church continues to:
• Expand discipleship and spiritual formation
• Strengthen pastoral care and congregational support
• Invest in the next generation of children and students
• Reach our community and city with the love of Christ
• Prepare the campus and ministries for the next 50–100 years

At the same time, we are experiencing a gap between current giving levels and the resources required to fully fund the ministries God has placed before us.

A Biblical Foundation

The idea of a faithful remnant appears throughout Scripture.

Isaiah 10:21 — “A remnant will return; yes, the remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God.”
Romans 11:5 — “It is the same today, for a few of the people of Israel have remained faithful because of God’s grace.”
2 Corinthians 9:7–8 — “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.
For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

The Generous Remnant simply reflects this timeless biblical pattern: God often moves through those who willingly step forward.

THANK YOU

John Wesley Methodist Church exists because faithful people have invested their prayers, their time, and their generosity into the mission of Christ.
The Generous Remnant simply continues that legacy. Together, we press forward with gratitude, faith, and hope.
