Important Safety Notice for John Wesley Church Givers

We want to take a moment to address an important issue regarding the safety of your generous contributions. Churches around the country have experienced attempts to exploit the generosity and kindness of Christians through elaborate phishing scams. These scams can take various forms, including emails, text messages, and even AI-generated voice phone calls that impersonate trusted individuals asking for money.

How to Protect Yourself

To ensure your safety, please remember the following:

• Official Communication: Our church will never contact you directly for donations outside of the methods listed - through Realm and Go Method, our Schwab account for gifts of securities, mailed to our address, or brought to the church. Any other attempts to collect money, either for the church or especially for an individual, are likely fraudulent and should be verified by contacting the church directly.

• Verification is Key: If you receive any message from someone asking for money, we urge you to call the church office first at 281-444-2112. This will allow you to verify the identity of the person reaching out to you.

• Scammers Can Fake Numbers: Be aware that scammers can manipulate phone numbers to appear as if they are coming from the church. However, they cannot intercept calls made directly to our office.

• Be suspicious of emails with special requests or notifying you that the church has changed it's banking arrangements:  We do share giving and mission opportunities via weekly ENews that will direct you to Realm or Go Method. Messages from the Senior Pastor or other staff or church leaders are likely fraudulent.  These can often be identified by "hovering" on the address that the email is coming from and will not be one of our standard emails.  Please delete these messages without opening and let us know that you received a suspicious message.
