A Message From Your Core Leadership Team

Over the past several years, John Wesley Methodist Church has experienced a significant season of transition, discernment, and renewed clarity about who God has called us to be.

Through it all, one conviction has remained strong: John Wesley is called to be a vibrant, independent Wesleyan Methodist church whose mission is to Connect People to Jesus. At the same time, we have recognized something deeply Methodist: we are better when we are connected.

After an extended season of prayer, conversation, participation, and discernment, the Core Leadership Team voted unanimously on September 21, 2026, for John Wesley Methodist Church to officially become a member of the Methodist Collegiate Church (MCC), an association of independent and autonomous Methodist churches.

One of the questions we have wrestled with since becoming independent is: How do we remain independent without becoming isolated? We believe the MCC provides an important answer.  For John Wesley, joining the MCC does not mean giving up our autonomy. Our Core Leadership Team continues to govern our church. We retain control of our property, finances, staffing, ministries, doctrine, social stances, and local decision-making.

John Wesley is still John Wesley because the MCC is not a denomination in the traditional sense. It is an association of Wesleyan Methodist churches that choose to be connected while remaining independent and locally governed. Independence gives a local church tremendous freedom, but healthy independence should never mean isolation. Our Wesleyan heritage has always valued connection.

Our doctrine is not changing. Our social stances are not changing. Our mission is not changing. Instead, we are choosing to walk alongside like-minded and like-hearted churches that share our commitment to historic Wesleyan Christianity and our desire to faithfully carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ into our communities and the world. We call this connection without control.

Through the MCC, John Wesley gains relationships with other churches and leaders who share our Wesleyan heritage and many of our convictions about ministry. These relationships provide opportunities for clergy accountability, leadership development, licensing and ordination, shared resources, ministry partnerships, and theological connection.

Our leadership and governance remain local. Our property remains ours. Our ministry decisions remain ours. Our doctrine and social stances remain intact. And our calling to be a vibrant neighborhood church remains at the center of who we are. We believe the MCC gives us that opportunity, and we are excited about what these relationships can mean for our future. Most importantly, our focus remains exactly where it has always belonged: Connecting People to Jesus.

Serving JWMC in Love,

Your Core Leadership Team
